About The Spike feeders

The Spike Feeders

We’re just a group of eight friends who have a passion for EDH, and want to make cool stuff to share with the community. Read a little bit about each of us here!

AARON

Aaron’s been playing Magic longer than most of us have been alive. He started out with a podcast called Cubism, where he shared his passion for the cube format. You can also see him at events commonly among vendors where he works as a card buyer, and LGS manager. Aaron has a real strength and passion for deckbuilding, so any of the cool new brews you see on the channel are likely a creation he has had a hand in. Aaron also makes our video thumb nails, and handles some of the graphic design.

When Aaron isn’t playing Magic, he is eating, sleeping, and breathing Magic. He doesn’t do anything else. Ever. Magic is his passion.

Alex

Alex is nearly as Boros as his favorite commander Aurelia, the Warleader. Fast games with lots of sideways creatures is where he feels most at home. He discovered his passion for EDH by starting out as a Judge who has since seen his fair share of events both large and small.

Alex enjoys several types of video and board games, especially social party games, and deck builders. In a previous life Alex was an Improv actor and voice over artist. Now he focuses on building and painting Games Workshop minis and both playing and game mastering Table Top RPG’s like Pathfinder 2 and Dungeons and Dragons.

Bill

Bill is a textbook Johnny, who enjoys weird interactions between old cards and exploiting them for #sickvalue. His first and only love is his Najeela Flash Hulk deck, which has gone through multiple revisions but at its core is just an excuse so that he can play Kiki-Jiki and Sneak Attack in cEDH.

When Bill isn’t playing Magic, he’s definitely still thinking about playing Magic, as well as spending time with his girlfriend Rylie, playing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate or Slay the Spire, and chatting with people on our Discord.

Eliot

Eliot plays Magic the way he does most things in life. Poorly, and without much thought. This, however, hasn’t stopped him from becoming The Spike Feeders’ resident Doomsday aficionado, as his number one love for over-complicating winning the game is followed ever so closely by making everyone else sit there and watch him do it!

When he isn’t playing Magic, Eliot is playing assorted video games, watching anime, and trying to stop his cat, Zur, from eating everything he loves.

Jan

If you think you’ve seen Jan at a Grand Prix or MagicFest, you probably have. Jan travels all over North America chasing down judge calls in his capacity as an L2. Jan’s first love is stax, and he’s perfectly content playing draw-go for 30 turns while his opponents’ live totals slowly approach zero.

When Jan isn’t playing Magic, he enjoys fine wines and playing all sorts of tabletop and video games.

Jerry

Jerry loves playing things fast and loose. At any given moment he is likely to be keeping a 1-land hand without taking his first free mulligan. Jerry equally loves taking 15-minute storm turns and crushing people’s hopes and dreams with a well-timed Trinisphere.

When he isn’t playing Magic, Jerry spends long hours cultivating soybeans, watching the Red Sox, and playing with his adorable dog, Sasha.

Jim

In his heart of hearts, Jim is a brewer. He loves pushing the limits of what’s possible in Magic. Are the results good? Sometimes. Are they interesting? Definitely. Jim plays cEDH because efficiency and consistency are two of the boundaries that can be pushed in our format. Jim is an L1 judge that does a lot of work with community building, specializing in judge conference and skills training.

Jim previously wrote articles for The Mana Base under the pseudonym The Metaworker, covering topics like deckbuilding, strategy, and the way we treat each other.

When Jim isn’t playing Magic, he likes playing board games and cooking adventurous meals with his girlfriend, Shannon.

Maddy

Maddy is the creative brain in the team. From our logo, to all our merch design, every aesthetic aspect of what we do comes from her. She's a professional artist under the name Clover Alters, and you can find card alters and beautiful pieces of artwork. Her favorite decks include lots of interaction, and explosive surprises.

When Maddy isn't playing Magic or living in her art studio, she is usually spending time with her partner Fil and their shiba inu Crayon. She also likes Final Fantasy 14, Pokemon, and Stardew Valley.
